How do you find out what happened in your home in the 1940's?

do you know of any web sites that could show you what your home was like along time ago.

  1. uhh... look in ur attic and if that doesnt work, ask ur very old neighbors.

    If you go to the local library or the city hall, they would be able to help you, because the house should be registered somehow.

  3. Go to the library, right to the information and reference desk and ask for "Henderson Directories" from the 1940s. They're the pre-online versions of reverse phonebooks that look up people by phone numbers or address. You can find the address of your house in these. You'll find names of previous owners. Then use the library, city hall or your local newspaper to research these names. They might have old photos of your neighbourhood - or if something newsworthy happened there, maybe even your home.

  5. If you live in a town, you may be able to actually find some information on your house on that town's website under the town history, and then go from there. Other than that, a wise choice would be to give someone from your town's local historical society a phone call if this knowledge means a lot to you, they'd have more resources at their disposal and more time and interest in finding this out for you.
