here is what I do, I get online satelite images (somewhat updated) from the area I really like. I take a good look at the lot and its surrounding . Then I research the lots owner with the county tax collector or assesor. I contact them and hope to find negotiation. If you cant see what your buying dont do it.

same as if you wanted info on property with a house. All land is recorded in a county hall of records. These records are open to the public.
