how long has this person been gone may depend on finding them. Know anything about their occupation small towns everyone knows everyone.

You wouldn't be able to find it in a traditional phonebook. There are sites online where you can type in the person's first name and where they live... it will give you a list of all the people in that city with that name, so depending on the first name, a bunch of peopel might come up. I like to use www.411.com.
