  1. While the other two answers are technically correct I would like to ask you what math class you are currently in.

If you are going into Pre-Calculus I would seriously urge you to memorize exact Trigonometric Tables (start with just 0, 30, 45, 60 ,90) for Sin Cos Tan. (Csc, Sec, Cot are just the inverses of these three so don't worry about memorizing those)

If you are in a lower level class just forget about the previous paragraph. (or get a head start on those tables =P )

The Sin of 1/2 is in fact 30 degrees or pi/6. (This is one of the values you should memorize.

  3. type it into the calculator and use the inverse sine function:

    2nd function, sine, 0.5, =

  4. sin (theta) = 100/200

    sin (theta) = 1/2

    sin (theta) = .5

Use your computer's calculator. Click START > All Programs > Accessories > Calculator.

Switch to scientific mode, if necessary.

    Click on Degrees.

Click on the check box labelled Inv (on the left, near the top).

    Enter the value: .5

Click sin (middle button on the left)

    Result: 30 degrees

  5. check with trigonometrical tables
