A train travels at a rate of 75 miles per hour for 2 hours. Whats the distance, and how do you find it?

  1. distance = rate x time

    d=75 miles x 2 hours

    d= 75 x 2

    d=150

    distance traveled is 150 miles


  2. You simply multiply the rate (75 miles per hour) times the time (2 hours) to get the 150 mile distance.

    The 'per hour' term in the denominator of the rate cancels with the 'hours' term in the time to leave you with the diatance in miles.
