How do you find the information for the owners of a company?

Question

I'm trying to find a website that will list the address, owners or Board of Directors for a retail company. I know the corporate address is not the address where the owners are located so I'm trying to find out who actually owns the company.

It's amazing what a Yahoo search will yield!  I typed in "find owner of a small business" and got this website which has some good ideas.

I'm assuming this is a privately owned company and not a publicly traded one.

If it's a public company stockholders at a certain level are listed in the proxy statements filed with the SEC. They would not list addresses, however.
