How do you find the northern line of latitude on a map??

Lines of Latitude run across the page from left to right whereas lines of Longitude run up and down.

Be careful though it depends on which type of map you are looking at as the lines may also be Grid lines that have no reference to Latitude or Longitude as in a road map or map of a city.
