  1. how i was taught it

    ok

put the percent you want over a hundred

    135/100

    because 100%

then = (in this case) x over 400

    135/100 = x/400

    then cross multiply

    400 times 135 = 54000

    then divide by 100

    54000 divided by 100 = 540

and that works  and if there is a problem that says 40 is What percent of 400 then you would set it up like this

    x/100 = 40/400

then cross multiply then divide by the number across from x

or another one like 55 is 75% of What number u would set it up like this

    75/100 = 55/x

    cross multiply 55 and 100

    5500

    then divide by 75

and what ever number that is

and unless otherwise stated the percentage side always always always has 100

it doesn't matter which side the 100 goes on

as long as its on the bottom and

as long as the numbers match up

like the percent number has to go over the 100

and the regular number has to go over the other regular number

if you need any help with understanding this then email me

  2. 400x1.35 = 540

    so

    135% of 400 is 540

    :]

  3. The easiest way for me is to turn the percent into a decimal.

So for 135%, the decimal is 1.35

multiply 1.35x400 and your percent is 540!

  4. You multipy the number by the percentage as a decimal.  So 135% as a decimal is 1.35, and 1.35 x 400 = 540.
