For example, I am only given

x-intercept= 2

y-intercept= -1

How do I find the slope intercept form of this? y = m x + b

  1. x-intercept= 2   (2,0)

    y-intercept= -1

    u know y=mx+b

    y=mx-1

    you also know that from 2,0 x=2 when y=0 so put that in and find m

    0= 2m -1

    1 = 2m

    1/2 = m

    so eqn: y = 1x/2 -1

  2. you find the slope of the line and then the y-intersept= b

    you can find the slope of a line by useing this equation

       m= (Y2-Y1)/( X2- X1)

    so if you have the points (0,-1) (2,0)

       in the point (0,-1) 0 would represent X1 and -1 would represent Y1

       in the ponit (2,0) 2 would represent X2 and 0 would represent Y2

    so the equation would look like this

       m= (0- -1)/ (2-0) you will end up with a slope of 1/2

    your equation will be y=1/2x-1
