How do you find the x and y intercept of a line?

Man I forgot how to find it .... it's kinda true that you forget a lot of stuff over summer vacation :]

  1. hmmm, i think its the x intercept is where it cuts the line on the x axis (the one goin across)

    and the y intercept is where it cuts the line on the y axis (the one goin upwards)

  2. Pick the intercept that you want to find first.  And for explanation purposes, let's say you want to find the x intercept first.

    All you have to do is substitute zero for y into the equation and solve for x.  x will equal some value.  That value will be the x intercept of the line.  

    You do the exact same thing to find the y-intercept too, only you substitute zero for x in that case, and solve for y.

    Another way to find the intercepts would just be graphing the line and seeing where it crosses the x axis and the y axis.
