a graduated cylinder contains 31.5 mL of water. a rock is dropped into the graduated cylinder, and the water level in the graduated cylinder rises to 43.0 mL. what is the volume of the rock?

  2. volume of the raised water = volume of the rock

    and by simple conversion.....

    one litre = 1 decimetre cube

  3. The volume of an object in the cylinder is the final reading minus the initial reading:

    43-31.5 = 11.5 mL
