How do you finish the top of a crib blanket?

I have a crib blanket that I am making from a front panel and satin back. I sewed them together inside out and flipped them and filled with stuffing. Now I am trying to close the top and am not sure how. Any suggestions? Thanks

  1. Easy way to do this is to fold in the seams that you left open for turning it right side out.  Make sure it is even with the other seam you sewed to put the sides together.  Pin it together and press it so it will lay down.  Now, press the seam all the way around the little blanket so that it lays down nicely and is even.  Then simply top stitch around the entire blanket, maybe using the presser foot for your width guide.  Make sure you catch all the fabric that you turned in at your opening.  This should not only close up your hole, but should also help hold your batting in place and give the blanket a little more stability.  Hope this helps!  Good Luck!!

  2. Fold in your seam allowances and press, Pin the seam closed and whip stitch or slip stitch in place. By Hand!!! slip stitch, catch within the seam allowance on the fold line on other side catch and come out about 1/4 inch from insertion, then back to the other side all the way down the seam.

I have finished quilts this way and they last for a very long time.

Or you can stitch satin blanket binding to the top edge and hand hem it in place.
