  1. Look at:

--How heavy the bow is (would you be comfortable carrying it ALL day?)

--Does it fit in your hand comfortably (is it like holding a super-sized soft drink, or a medium-sized pen? or is it "just right"?)

--How difficult is it to draw to anchor (can you pull the string back without grunting, twisting, or risking a torn tendon somewhere? Can the bow be drawn to YOUR anchor without modification of some kind - and if not, are you willing to have it modified?)

--Do YOU like the bow -- or are you getting it only because it is the "latest & greatest"?

In answer to the second part of the question... If it is the only option available to you, Bass Pro is a "good place" to get fitted out with a new bow -- but it's not the best place. The best place would be an Archery Store, where ARCHERY is the focus (instead of just another "department") and folks who live/eat/breathe/dream archery and/or bowhunting run the place. Stores like Bass Pro are, after all, in the business of selling what they want you to have -- which isn't necessarily what you really need. If you do the research first and go in with the knowledge of what you need (and refuse to allow yourself to be persuaded to ignore that knowledge), I'm fairly sure that you won't get "fleeced" at Bass Pro....

    Hope this helps.
