  1. If it was a big burn, you may want to cut out that portin of the wall and replace it with new drywall. s***w it in, tape the sides with drywall tape and plaster over the cracks and tape. Wait until it is dry and then sand. You should be able to paint it and it will blend in with the wall perfectly.

*If it is an OLD apartement, you may not have drywall walls, but rather plaster. If so, you may be able to cut it out and do as above, but if it is not a deep burn, sand and scrap off the burn untill you are maybe half a cm to a whole cm unto the wall, and cover it with new plaster. Wait for it to dry and then sand the new plaster. Then paint it.

  2. If the paint on the walls peeled simply scrape it with a 6" flexible putty knife until it stops peeling easily.  Wash the wall with hot water and TSP(Trisodium phosphate) a powdery cleaner sold at Home depot in their paint department.  Once the wall is dry apply a coat of Kilz stain blocking primer to the wall with a paint roller and cover.  Once the kilz is dry paint the wall with a computer matched paint.  If the wall is no longer smooth after the kilz is applied, buy a multipurpose drywall compound like EZ Sand  and put it in a plastic pail.  Add a quick squeeze of dish washing liquid to the drywall compound and using the 6" putty knife held at a 15degree angle, spread the drywall compound along the wall area in several thin layers.  Resist the temptation to heap it on the wall.  Once one of the THIN layers dry, sand and smooth out, paint it with another coat of kilz and then paint it the final color.   All of the materials cited above are available at both large home centers and most hardwares.

P.S. if you have renter's insurance your insurance company will pay for the damages caused to the apartment wall without a deductible.

  3. There are some brands of primer paint that are good at sealing in smoke odors - Zinser makes some products.  You can look them up online to find out their recommendations.

  4. Cut out the burned drywall, and replace the cutout with fresh drywall cut to size. s***w into place and spackle it. When it's dry, sand and repaint.
