How do you fix a shortage where it tells you how much gas you have in your car ?

My car is alwasy telling me i am on empty when i know there is gas it can be clear right up after filling it up . How do i fix this shortage so i know the correct amount of gas in my car ? I have a 2003 Toyota Seqoia

bad gauge or bad indicator in tank.

sounds like a bad indicator or gauge  to the fuel tank. Also sounds like a job for a mechanic unless you have a warranty and I might hazzard a guess not because of the age of the vehicle.

Your best bet would be to have a mechanic look at it. Most likely the guage has gone out giving you the false readings.

if we tell you how to fix it we are also telling you what is wrong with it so I guess we can't help you. And how do you know its a shortage and not a groundage or an openage?
