  1. I hope you already know how to swim one or two styles well.

Floating on the back is easy, if you dont have any water phobia. I have taught many adults and teenagers doing it within 15-30 mins. The trick is to learn it in very shallow water, even knee-high water  will do.

Get someone to hold your waist while you place your hands on the bottom of the pool, stretch your body and legs out. Take a deep breath, hold it for 15-20 secs, straighten your body and slowly release your hands to your side. You should begin to float with no problems.  Enjoy the wonderful feeling of floating!

  2. just lay back and push your stomach up it will keep you a float if you want to go in the deep end tred water just kick evan breaststroke kick it looks like the frog

  3. If you choose to go to the party, take something that floats -- a boogie board, a noodle, a volleyball, and rig it with a strap so that it will always be attached to your wrist.  Noodle would be best.  You can let the float do the floating for you, and since you're tied to it, it can't get away from you.

However, no one could recommend that you go into the deep end if you can't swim.  Even if you had your float and a buddy, hopefully a cute guy, who knew that you couldn't swim and would hang with you and your noodle while in the deep end, that would still be too dangerous.

One slip, one lapse in attention, and you are in serious trouble.  Go to the party, but stay in the shallows or sit on the deep-end wall.

The YMCA gives quality and inexpensive swimming lessons, no reason not to be able to swim.
