How do you focus the HC5000 mitsubishi projector. I can get picture but I am having trouble figuring out focus

Obviously you already know how to focus the lense using the remote as well as the controls on the projector itself.  Check your zoom range to make sure you are within an acceptable range in order to focus the projector.

It has motorized focus and zoom - so there should be buttons on the remote and on top that allow you to focus it.

The focus controls should be fairly obvious (they are on the remote and the top of the projector); however -- at the risk of stating the obvious -- you ALSO have to have the projector far enough from the screen to get focus. For example, a 100" screen requires the projector to be 10'2" to 16' 6" from the screen.
