  1. win the county lottery.

  2. IF YOU VOTE YOU ARE AT RISK OF BEING CALLED TO JURY DUTY.  IF YOU RECEIVE A LETTER TO ATTEND DO NOT REPLY, DON'T EVEN CALL TO SAY YOU RECEIVED A LETTER, JUST TEAR IT UP AND FORGET ABOUT IT.  THE COMPUTER SYSTEM RANDOMLY SPITS OUT NAMES FROM THE VOTER REGISTRY AND THEY ARE IMMEDIATELY SENT OUT.  THEY HOOK THESE PEOPLE THAT CALL AND SAY " HEY I GOT THIS LETTER ...ETC...".

IF YOU NEVER CALL, THEY'LL NEVER KNOW.

  3. Voter registration does contribute to you getting on the jury duty list. It's being registered that counts, not whether or not you vote. Of course, I think it's kind of silly to register and then not vote. But voter registration isn't the only thing that triggers your name to get on the list. There's such a thing as "blue ribbon juries," which are juries made up of people with special technical abilities who can understand the elements of the case.

  4. Be a registered voter.  However, I lived in Illinois for over 20 years as a registered voter and never was picked.  A coworker was picked twice in three years.  Luck of the draw.

  5. Each state laws are different. In some states the create jury pools from registered voters, other states use drivers' license databases, other states use other lists. All of these lists have to draw on a fair cross-section of the community that includes the rich, the poor and those in-between for the trials to hold up on appeal.

Even if you are called on to report for jury duty, the chances of you sitting on a trial are low. They also can excuse you in some cases (as when I had purchased non-refundable tickets) or simply postpone your appearance. Frankly, I think serving on the jury was rewarding. I have done so about 5 times in the last 25 years but I've only been on three juries.

If you have any sense of duty to your country that has given you so much, taking a few days to serve on a jury is a small price to pay.

  6. As long as you have a voter's registration card, you are in the pool to be selected for jury duty.  I have always been registered to vote in every state I've lived in (registered in IL for 6 years, FL for 16 years, MI for 2 years, MO for 4 years).  However, in Florida I was only called on twice - but was never called on to serve in any other state.

Just be patient, you will get your chance.

  7. Yes, jury duty rolls in the USA key on registered voters. In many places, I believe you can also volunteer, to move up on the rolls.

  8. You don't get called to Jury Duty because you voted.  You do get on a list and called if you are a "Registered Voter".  So, if you're "registered" to vote, you can get called to Jury Duty.  That's it.

  9. I'm not quite sure, but I know it doesn't have anything to do with voting, because my boyfriend's brother got called for jury duty when he was 18 and he had not registered to vote.  I think when you turn 18 you are eligible.  Also, just because you are eligible doesn't mean you will get called. Most of the time you will receive a letter and you will have to show up at the courthouse.  Then people will decide whether or not you can serve on the jury for that case.  If they think you might be biased in any way you don't have to serve.
