  1. first off, you have to have a router/switch,wireless access point and of course a wireless card. If you are planning to make a wireless connection at home there's no need for a server if you have a DSL connection(you can still have a server if you like) all you have to do is  to connect your router to your DSL modem then plug in the wireless access point or you can simply buy a linksys wireless router. its a router and access point in one and its easier to configure than the first option that I gave you.

  2. First, make sure you have broadband internet service. Your service provider (Telus, Shaw, etc.) should give you a device called a modem. Set this up according to the manual, but don't plug anything into the rectangular ethernet jack.

Now, you need to purchase a wireless router. Any decent store, even Wal*Mart should have them. Wireless N is the best, but many newer devices can't take advantage of its technology. I would suggest Wireless G for now.

You should have a wireless router now. Follow the instructions in the manual.

You're pretty much finished! Go on a wireless device (laptop) and choose to connect to a wireless access point. If there's more than one router in the available list, choose the one with the name of the brand of your router - that's most likely the one you just purchased.

Great! Now you have Wireless Internet (also called WiFi or WLAN)!

  3. Generally you have the choice if you have wireless or not.  First you have to pay for an internet connection via dsl, cable or satallite.

You would then get a modem, at that point you can choose to get a router and it could be wireless or not.  All wi-fi means is wireless, and how you get there is in your control.

  4. Wi-Fi is the wireless connection to the internet. You can get it by using a router, witch transmits a wireless signal.
