When the normal grading scale only goes up to 4.0?

I see people do it sometimes and I'm just wondering what you have to do to get it.

  1. I don't understand it either. I assume they take more weighted classes.

  2. You take everysingle course Advanced Placement... It took many tutors, lots of all nighters, and endless studying to earn me a 4.65.

    Good luck!

  3. ha i didnt even know that was possible which is prob why mine was only a 1.7

  4. TAKE MANY AP CLASSES AS YOU CAN.

    FRESHMANS RARELY GET 5.0 REALLY.

    HONORS, IB CLASSES

ARE ALL WEIGHTED SO IT ADDS UP

  5. For most schools A=4, B=3 C=2 D=1 F=0

However, at some schools, honors, AP, and/or IB classes are weighted so each letter grade is worth more points. For example at my school, AP and IB classes are both A=5, B=4 C=2 D=1 F=0. There are other weighted scales, some with fractional points. Some schools have no weighting at all. For more info, talk to our counselor.

  6. ap classes and honors classes

  7. ap classes

    straight A's

  8. Honor student.

  9. AP classes

  10. Some schools create an artificial curving system for their grades. This is necessary in order to weigh honors and AP courses more than regular track classes. The highest I've ever seen is a GPA that goes to 5.4 in High School.

In college, some schools weigh A+'s a bit higher than A's. Cornell University is an example. All in all, GPA in college ona  5 scale is simply stringing out more distinctly some of the lower C/B margin grades.

  11. you have to get all A+s in all honors and ap classes,

personally 4.0 is already great. but yeah. it's because they count for more credit.

i took two honors courses and three aps but i "only " had a 4.1 GPA but that got me into georgetown just fine. : D

  12. If you get an A in and AP class, then you get an additional .45 points added to your final GPA. Also, most I.B. classes are weighted similarly.

My school had a three-way tie for valedictorian this past year, each having earned a 4.93 GPA.

It takes a LOT of hard classes.

  13. you can get above a 4.0 by taking AP classes or in some high schools by taking honors classes.

  14. Some high schools (not all) weight AP and sometimes honors classes as well, making them potentially worth more than 4.0 points, what an A is normally worth.  This GPA is no longer out of 4.0, but out of the highest possible weighted grade.  Since everyone's weighted GPA is on a different scale, it's not used by college admissions - they want unweighed.

The only way for someone to have a 5.0 is to take only AP classes in high school.  Which is ridiculous in principle, since AP classes are supposed to be worth college credit - but there's no way you're getting college credit for high school algebra or grade 9 English.  High schools are calling many classes 'AP' these days without a test to go with it.

  15. Advanced Placement classes give u one extra point

Honors classes gives u .5 extra
