I have 2 puppies - Cody and Kip. They are 5 month old Boxer-Cavaliers.

Kip was the runt of the litter of 5 puppies when they were born, but is now bigger and thicker set than his brother. It is a lot easier to take them walking to train them (sit, stay, fetch etc) individually. Cody is fine and is actually much better behaved when he is on his own, but Kip is always very reluctant to leave the house without his brother and runs home when he gets too far without him. How can I encourage him to be a little more independent so I can train him better when he is not being distracted by his brother?

  1. Crate them separately and take them for walks and train them separately.

  2. he has gotten dependant on his brother...what you can do when you take him for a walk by himself on a leash is to talk calmly to him a good bit..take treats and take him out more often by himself...he may not totally get over the dependancy but it will fade over time as he matures... (my 9 month old dog was that way with my 12 year old dog and i did that....shes more independant now)..

    good luck
