I have been training for a week know running about 45 minutes a day. My mile time is 7:35 when I started and it is still the same. Should I test my mile time every two weeks and train during the two weeks. I just don't know.

  1. You should probably test your running time out on a treadmill and set the mile time to 6 minutes so you can get a feel for how fast you need to be running in order to achieve your goal. Then go out and instead of running for 45 minutes, you need to just time your mile. Do it on a track also because you can pace yourself easier than in a neighborhood.

  2. every month and try really running with intensity,

ur almost there i remember being slow like u and turningout to running  4:21 mile so u could do it  . if u want to be a good mileler u need to do mile repeats and try averaging 9:00 at ur pace try doing 5 of them once a week for work out  and the rest of the days run 5 mile that about same time ur running a day when it come to running mile the first and third lap should be the fastest and when it comes to the last lap and ur extreamely tired go balls out and u will beat ur pr. good luck

  3. if you just started running, it will take a while, maybe even a few months, before you reach peak condition. Your times should drop if you continue training. Also, a tip my coach gave me: if you want to run fast, you have to train fast as well. Speedwork will help to cut down your mile time, but I would say wait until you have a solid month of training, at least, before you try the fast stuff.

The other half of racing is mental. You have to believe you can do it. To help with the mental part, try visualization exercises. Close your eyes and picture yourself running a 6 minute mile.

Good luck, and don't doubt yourself.

  4. It's great ur running for 45 mins a day but u need to take 2-3 days out of ur week and instead or running long distance run sprints. Run like 6 400meter sprints with a 2 min rest in between each one or maybe 4 600meter sprints with a 3min rest between them.

  5. first off, how old are you?  i'm 13 and am at a 5:50ish mile.  it's not all about running.  i run, bike, and do other leg exercises (calf raises, wall sits, lunges).  you also want to do some sprinting (100m's and 200m's) and some distance work (2 or 3 miles), this will definetly help you run the mile faster!
