How do you get a better yield out of hayfield new to this?

  1. pray for rain -- insureds had a good first cutting - than a dry june and july = no second cutting(but not too much rain)

  4. Get a soil test.  Fertilize properly according to soil test recommendations. Whether you do this with standard fertilizers or organically is a personal choice that you will have to make.  Correct the soil pH if needed. Be sure that you have the best available varieties of grass, alfalfa, or whatever else you are making hay from. Make sure that you have a proper stand of your plants. If you don't have irrigation, your final yields will be determined by the amount and spacing of the rainfall.
