Ok, so i want to make a line chart to log my progress. I have the columns 'weight', 'average', and 'day'. I can make a chart, but i add new data to each column every day. Is there a way for the chart to automatically add this new data into the chart without me having to create a new one each day? Thanks, and please keep it simple...

  1. When you highlight the group of cells that make up your chart add one more blank cell at the end of your columns.  This blank cell will appear as zero on the chart.

Now for the next day just insert a new row of blank cells at the bottom of your columns.  To do this click on the row after your last number data.  This pushes the original blank row down one row and leaves you in the row below your data.  Go ahead and enter your new numbers across this row and your chart displays them as you go.

As long as you insert rows before the last row or after the first Excel thinks it is part of the original chart.

  2. There are lots of resources on the web for charting dynamic data. I've listed one below in the "What's your source?" window - give it a read.

  3. Further to answer 1 if you do not want the extra row to appear on your chart hide the row then the zero or blank row will not show on your chart (with chart selected ensure tools>options>charts >plot visible cells ony is checked )
