Question:

How do you get a contact lens out of your eye?

My fiance got some trial contact lenses yesterday. It took him an hour to get them in, and while he was able to remove one of them easily at the end of the day, the other took nearly 30 minutes. All day the same eye has been irritating him. As of this moment he has been trying for over an hour to get the same stubborn lens out of his eye, while the other was easily removed. He is freaking out right now... he says he's tried anything and doesn't know what to do.

Any suggestions? Please help this new contact wearer!

  1. When he's doing this, he should look up and slide the contact down the eye, past the iris (color part) and then he should be able to carefully grab them off with the tips of his fingers.

He doesn't have to be looking up to do this but the point is to slide the contact down.

  2. Tell him to look up, pull the lens down off of the iris, and gently pinch it off. The pinch is a big wide gentle pinch, your just trying to bring the two edges of the lens together. Try putting a couple drops of solution or wetting drops in the eye first. That will help the stubborn lens break it's grip on his cornea.

If that doesn't work, instead of looking up try looking in the mirror and pull the lens to the side of your eye and pinch off.

Frustration only makes it harder, this is totally normal (I think I answer this question at least twice a day...)

    Good luck!

  3. if you put some saline solution on you finger before you touch the lenses it helps sometimes the lense is a little dry in the      eye, it will stick to your  finger

  4. I had the same problem, believe it or not!

I took the contact out the wrong way, and my eye was seriously irritated.  It may take some getting used to, but he'll need to gently pull the contact off the cornea, into the white of his eye.  Then he'll need to pinch the contact, and as a result, the contact will lose the suction with the eye fluid, and release.

It will take some getting used to, as I said.

For me, it's always the left eye that is giving me trouble, but after some practicing, I have it down.  It may seem uncomfortable, but it will get better with time.  If it continues to bother his eye, go back to your supplier, and ask to try out a different brand.  I did this, and it worked wonders.

    Good luck!
