  1. You apply for one at your bank.  You have to have a checking account that the debit card is attached to .  My son was 16 when I gave him a debit card.  He was very careful and I was never disappointed in how he used it.

  3. A debit card can only be used in conjunction with a checking account, not a savings account.   I believe most banks do have age restrictions. But a joint account with one or both of your parents would allow you to be a signer on a checking account.  This makes your parents equally responsible to the account, including any bad marks against the account.  So before you ask them about a joint checking account, be sure you understand the responsibility, earn your own money to put into it, & you are respectful (at all times) of your parents and appreciate the opportunity they are giving you by helping you open a checking account.  It is a huge risk for your parents if you are not a responsible person.    If you are not old enough to get a checking account, I believe you would be old enough to get savings acct. No matter what age you are, you should open a savings account and find ways to put some money into it....birthday, christmas gifts.  You don't have to put everything in, but always deposit a portion of the money you get.  This is a good way of proving responsibility & when you are old enough to get a checking account, your have already shown your parents that you know how to handle money.  One last small bit of advice....No matter what age you are, it is always a good idea to have more than one signer on bank accounts.  BUT the other signer has to be someone you trust with your life. You have to remember, any signer can with draw the money out of the account.

  4. A debit card is basically an ATM card with a Visa or Mastercard logo on it.  It has to be attached to a checking account.  When you use a debit card, it takes the funds directly out of your checking account.  That means you have to have the money in the checking account.

You usually have to be 18 to have your own account but some banks will let you have a joint account with your parents.

    Good luck.

  5. i was 14 when i got mine, go to your local bank and ask about it there

  6. Many students will discover the importance of managing their money when they open their first checking account. Chase offers a uniquely designed checking account to help students in high school learn the value of financial responsibility.

High School Checking is a full-service checking account available to students between ages 13 and 17. This account is owned by the student jointly with a parent or guardian, provided that the parent or guardian maintains a separate qualifying linked checking account.

  7. You can get a debit card to use at A.T.M.'s and for card purchases in stores and at gas stations.  Most debit cards are attached to a bank account, usually a checking account.  Prepaid debit cards are also available at department stores and banks.  Prepaid cards have a limit set at purchase time and operate the same as any other debit or credit card
