How do you get a driver's license/permit in Paris, France?

it's more complicated in France than in the US!!!

We (I'm French) have to take about 25 lessons of 1 hour to drive the car in the city, coutryside, everywhere! lol

But before driving a car, we have to take lessons to learn the "code" and you have to do less than 5 mistakes to pass it successfully...

Take also into account that 90% of the french cars are not automatic!!!

In respect to your second question, yes. You have to go through a professional driving school (well, you can do it on your own but it takes much longer) to take the driving bit of the test.
