  1. Try to keep the bait and the hook the same size. Make sure your hook is sharp and the tip exposed.

If the fish are nibbleing the bait off, give it a tug when they nibble.

Use smaller hook and bait for small mouthed fish.

  2. """"""If you caught fish every time you went fishing, they would call it catching.""""

I guess when i go fishing i go catching???

  3. use smaller hook if you know it small fish.

  4. Keep downsizing your hooks until you consistently hook up on the fish. This will not only tell you what size fish are nibbling but also what type of fish are in the lake. Once you have this information you can put together a plan to catch the larger fish in the lake. If there is small fish, there has to be big fish. Good luck and have fun!!!

  5. Follow these steps and you should get more hook-ups;

Use a smaller hook-light wire hooks work great and can still hold a good sized fish so long as your drag is set.

Use a smaller bait- make sure it doesn't mask the hook point and gape as this can stop a good hook up.

Try circle hooks, they often will hook the fish themselves than you actually having to strike.

use braided lines, such as power pro, better bite detection and no stretch the fish often hook themselves and you have a better chance of striking in time.

Use a fluorocarbon hook length, prevents the fish being scared off by the line and its reflection under water.

  6. If you caught fish every time you went fishing, they would call it catching.

A "nibble" usually means a smaller fish. Not always, but most of the time.

Once you feel a nibble, gently pull back on the line. This can be done several ways. Typically if my line is in the water, I will have the my rod tip pointed toward the water. You can either lift the tip to say 10' oclock or lift the entire rod up a few inches.

Once you feel a tug, pull a little harder and start reeling in the line/fish.

  7. if its smaller fish that are nibbling and taking your bait you need a smaller hook.

  8. I agree sometimes the fish are too small for the hook or piece of bait you have - try smaller hooks or smaller piece of bait.

But alot of perch (white & yellow) a very light when they take your bait - you need to be quick and watch your line... they will take it and run and drop it or just sit there and pick pieces of the bait off...

Of course there are bluegills too - they will just pick up a big piece of bait and run and drop it or just keep picking away at it until it's gone - smaller hook and quick reflexes help to set the hook with them and the perch.

Trout do the same thing with power bait - take it and run and let it go...

    Good luck
