  1. The first answer is correct but no body mentioned the type of ball to use.  You need a ball with high spin rate like the Titleist Pro V1.

  2. a lot of clubhead speed through impact . main thing with swing . also if you play a lot of golf on public courses , the fairways and greens make a spinner shot impossible . the best you van do is one 3 foot hop and stop . even the best in the world cannot spin on the average course . the ball you use has a influence . if you want to spend 4 dollars plus a ball . slightly more stopping ability. if you want vwedges with zip groves at 169 a pop . this will help . if you play public couses , keep your grooves clean . hit solid . one 3foot hop . save a lot of money , muni courses not spin friendly .

  3. The swing necessary to impart backspin on a golf ball is very precise. This requires a downswing which hits the ball below the equator, trapping it between the club face and the turf, accelerating through the shot. which results in back spin, that should hold it on the green.

  4. Okay, this comes down to simple physics.  It is like spinning a soda bottle top on a table with backspin.  The harder you press down on the back of the top, the faster it spins forward, then grips and comes back to you.

So with that principle in mind, you have to hit down on the ball, almost cutting the ball in half on a 45 degree bias with the leading edge of the club, which creates backspin, which gives the ball more loft, and when it hits, spins back.  But you have to accelerate through the ball, and using a lower compression golf ball also helps.
