  2. You first need to find out the licensing procedure to do that morning work in the state & then talk with someone in charge of that stable to work out a game plan. You may be able to work in the morning for that stable or get leads to available jobs.

Even with your experience, to walk "cold" onto the backside may get you a hot-walking job, if even that. Work with the contacts you have now, but get licensed before seeking the next step.

  3. First you need to purchase the proper head gear, flak jacket, gloves, boots, chaps or leggings and a whip if you dont already have them. Then head out to the track and have them at the guard gate announce over the PA system that their is an exercise rider at the security gate looking for work.

Or get there early like 5am and try to talk to other riders when they arrive. Maybe they can help you out or know a trainer in the barn area that needs a rider. Also mention it to others as they walk through the security gate.

Once a trainer comes along that may put you to work, make sure you alert them your lack of track experience so they dont throw you up on a horse that you're not prepared for on the track. Getting you, the horse, or another rider and their horse hurt out on the track is not good. It is a lot more dangerous at the race track then at a training center. A lot more traffic on the track there. Think smart and safe.

    Good luck!
