people that work in the state offices of Senators and Congress members, how do they get their jobs? I would like to apply or look for this kind of legislative assistant position but I'm not sure where to look.

  1. I interned for my Congressman in his local district office throughout high school and college.  I got the job by visiting the office when I was 16 and telling them I wanted to work there.  They let me intern full time in the summer and part time during each school year throughout high school and college.  The first semester of my senior year in college, I interned for the DC office and got paid.  It was great!

So just pick who you want to work for and call them!  Speak with their office manager and see if they have a position open.  Most positions are "junior legislative assistant" but you can work your way up.  There is huge turnover on the Hill.

    Good luck to you!
