  1. In order to get an agency, you must first find ones in your area and go to them. Find out when they have an open call, or if they take picture submissions via snail mail or email. You can send them snapshots of yourself, but they must be CURRENT (ie what you look like the week you are sending your pictures in). Old pictures might give them an different idea about what you look like and be surprised when you walk in the door.

To find photographers in your area, you can ask the agency who they reccommend or look up local photogs in your area to try. You might find some that will shoot you and give you prints for free, but many do charge (because it is how they pay their bills!). You can have your own portfolio without having an agency, and testing with several photogs starting out will help you determine better if this is the right field for you.

Please remember that it is a business, so it can be fun work but is really that...WORK. And just like any other business, you will have to invest time and money into making it work.  You will have to pay for comp cards, pictures, runway training, etc, if you want to be the best model you can be...but you will NEVER pay an agent an up front fee, and avoid schools completely! An agent takes a percentage (usually 20%) of the money you make once you start making it, but you should not pay them out of your pocket just to work for them!

Please also remember that not everyone is cut out to be a model (or actress). Just because an agency does not like you doesn't mean you are ugly, fat or weird. This business is mainly about looks, and though it seems diverse most agents have certain guidelines that a person must meet before they consider you. The guidelines can be quite strict, and I have seen many beautiful girls turned down and heart broken over what seems like trivial things. In the real world they are trivial, but in Fashion world it might be a big deal. Just accept that there are certain things you cannot and will not change just because someone tells you that you should. If that agency doesn't take you, go to another. If you get a general consensus from several agents that you are not for them, go find something else that makes you happy. Good luck out there!

  2. You have to make a portfolio, ussually in the portfolio you should have a head shot, which is your head straight forward hair tied back and no make up! Also a full body shot and then maybe some dressy pictures and cut out  some pictures of your own favorite models and put some information about yourself in the portfolio. You can just do the first portfolio pictures with a good digicam or maybe someone you know has a professional camera.

You can make your own profile on fordmodels.com or barbazian (I think thats how it's spelled) that's a good teen model agency.
