I am trying to get into the local races here that are sanctioned by the AMA group and was just wondering how do you get a number to put on the front of the bike. I've been riding trails and just feel ready to go out and do some air and run against everyone else.

  1. you have to register it at ama

    www.ama.com

    good luck

  2. You usually have to first have a race licence and once you have that you contact the governing body of the country you are in (if you happen to be in America that is the AMA)  and they will allocate you a number to race with.

Every country does it different and where I am in Australia numbers are allocated different from state to state with the number in my state having meaning as to what grade you race.  The lower the number the better the rider.  Where I am the bikes also have different colour backgrounds which mean different levels of racing as well.

But just contact the ama and they will tell you the procedure or failing that the race secretary of your local club will have the information you want.

  3. if you plan to race in the pro ranks, you first have to apply for a license, after you application is approved, you will be assigned a number by the AMA for your first year, then you can pick an empty number.

if you plan on racing in a local  AMA sanctioned event, go to the sign up booth, and ask what numbers they have open for your particular class, and if you see a number you like, tell them that you want to run that number for the remainder of the year......

  4. Since you are in KS you should join the AMA. The rule book states that you should use the last 3 digits of your AMA number for amateur racing however that rule is frequently ignored. most "outlaw" tracks will let you run any number that someone else has not already used to sign up.

Use this link to find some local tracks in KS http://www.wheretomx.com/motocross-track...

  5. As I've no idea where you are from, I'm unable to assist. First get entered and accepted.

Once you've done this, all relevant info will be sent to you from the club. Don't worry about the little Minor things.
