  1. it is called a copyright. 'But if you have a dated copy on your computor that is good enough proof that it is your ideas and not someone elses. Send it to yourself attached to an email.

  2. Your Intellectual Property...copy it and date it, seal it, preferably with a witness and post it back to yourself, and record the date of postage...the answer saiys to do it electronically too, but this way you have something 'real'

  3. Copyright laws are full of holes unfortunately, as I'm finding out trying to protect my own script. Sealing copies and posting them to yourself or anyone you trust and keeping them sealed is yes, a way of proving ownership to a script. Getting the script vaulted with a lawyer is a good idea too. All that involves is your lawyer keeping a sealed copy themselves.

Basically if you can prove by date in any way that a script is yours that dates earlier than someone else trying to lay claim to it, then you're pretty much safe. But the best way to keep it safe is to keep it out of sight and only show it to those who are needed to get it into a production stage. Script concepts can be easily ripped off, and there's very little you can do abut that. If another script was blatantly copying story line and character names from yours, then you have a case, but even just marginal differences, such as character names and slight plot differences, can be justified by others to say theirs is genuine and their own.

Best thing you can do really is get the thing running as soon as you can and show it only to those you really have to and trust.

Best of luck with your venture.
