How do you get a sponsor for something?

I want to do my own type of charity fund raiser, actually there are 10 charities in all that I want to raise money for, but my event would cost quite a bit of money. How would I go about getting someone to sponsor me to help with the cost of everything? And what kind of things do they look for before deciding whether or not to sponsor you?

Go to local businesses and talk to the manager of each one. Especially car dealerships and larger, established companies who are probably used to donating to local causes.

Have a presentation, something to show them, or leave with them, so they can think about it (follow up next week with a phone call- don't stop bugging them for an answer). The more details you have planned, the better you will look when they start asking questions. Especially if they've never heard of you before.
