The constipation has been dealt with but now because of how painful it was she refuses to use her potty chair and has gone back to going in her training pants. We had come so far and I hate for it all to be in vain. I would like some ideas that would help to encourage her to use the potty again and not be afraid of it. She thinks that the potty chair was what hurt her so to make her feel better we "beat it up" and threw it away and went and bought another one but to my dismay my plan didnt work.

  1. At some point she has seen you go potty....right?   Tell her that she can use the 'big potty' with a special 'princess' seat (potty seat that attaches to the toilet).  Maybe she will be less afraid knowing the big potty did not hurt mommy.  You can even get a little step stool (princess too) to help her reach.

  2. After reading many potty books and going through potty training with my younger sisters, the best way to deal with this is wait.  I know you want to get out of the diapers as fast as possible.  But the best thing you all can do is put the potty away - forget about it.  Make her forget about it.  Come back to it after 1-2 months and try again.

  3. I agree- take a break from the chair. Also, try m and m's or jelly beans as bribes if she will sit for a minute, even if she does nothing. I bribed my now 4 year old to go when she was first learning, it worked great, and no, I don't still have to reward her. Also make sure she eats plenty of whole grains, fruits, veggies, and water so she doesn't get constipated again.
