  1. 8???!!!  There is some psych issue here.  See a child-counselor.

  2. My little brother did the same thing when he was about that age. My mom noticed that when he was doing it he was watching TV or playing games. She fixed it by taking away his TV/Game privelages and if he did it again she would extend the amount of time he was not allowed electronics.

I would find out what he is doing that is making him not want to go to the bathroom and restrict him from it. If it is just anytime no matter what he was doing, you could maybe restrict something that he enjoys doing so that he understands that if he does this, he loses something he loves, I know it worked realy well for him.

  3. Wow...8 years old?  Have you thought of taking him to a doctor?  He COULD have an underlying condition that you aren't aware of.

  4. that's disgusting! you must be doing something wrong

  5. Is there a chance that he may have encopresis?

My daughter was fully trained by age 4, and then we began to have soiling issues, it was frustrating.  Rather than become angry, though, we took her to the pediatrician, and it turned out that she had encopresis.  Thankfully it was minor and didn't require invasive treatment in her case, and within a month it resolved itself.

    Speak to the pediatrician.

I just read the above response!  Thank you JK!

  6. He could have a condition called encopresis. It may not be that he is lazy, but that he has a medical condition. This is quite common among kids and especially boys. What happens is that they get very backed up, lose the sensation of what it feels like to go and a little bit of f***s will slip out and stain their underwear. Even if it's not encopresis, please talk to a doctor about it.

There is tons of info out there if you google encopresis. As a parent it can make you upset with the child thinking that they are being lazy but they really can't control it. You have to put them on a regimen of stool softener, fluids, fiber and regular sitting on the toilet to retrain their little body to go. If it is encopresis, please be patient with him.

  7. This is not laziness.  No 8-year old would put up with this out of laziness.  His medication must be causing a problem which doesn't allow him to normally control or feel his movements.  He needs to see a doctor, if its not his medication there is another underlying problem which could be extremely serious.
