How do you get around LA at night?

Im going on holidays for 5 days there staying in santa monica on the beach near the pier and kjust want to know how we would get around day and night, and for example if we wanted to go to a club in hollywood or something wat we would do

Experience or taxi/limo.  A GPS helps a little, but LA is so crazy that the GPS cannot fogure it all out!

well there is all night transit (what metro calls "night owl service":along Santa Monica blvd and Wilshire

Blvd  from Santa Monica to Downtown LA

note that buses only run

every hour and at some major transfer points they wait for connecting buses  so it possible to use transit after midnight

LA has a really crapy public transportation system.  Your best bet at night (from Santa Monica to Hollywood) would be calling a cab.  The busses , while survivable, are a little shady and can take too long.  During the day, experiment with buses, Metro, bike rentals, etc.

your best bet would be to rent a cheap car for the 5 days
