  1. Stretch every day - a LOT!  And keep trying the splits several times a day.  The more you try, the closer you will get.


  2. i'm trying to improve at center splits, and my friends who are seniors in ballet studios (one from an academy), gave me these tips and stretches:

    - do a lunge and reverse lunge

    - stretch every day for at least an hour

    - drink tons of water and eat leafy green vegetables

    - visit the video from youtube on the bottom of this answer for more stretches. all of these helped me and my friends improve GREATLY in our splits.

    - wear warmups, legwarmers, for example. (the ones w/ stirrups are rather nice. :) )

    - stretch to some relaxing, soothing music or energetic music, whichever you work harder and push yourself more while listening to. :)

    - do the "butterfly" stretch. it stretches your turnout, therefore keeping it while going into your split, AND stretches hip flexors, the key part to center splits.

    - straddle (sit with your legs spread as wide as possible, then put both hands on one foot and hold, repeat w/ other foot, etc.)

    - face the wall w/ legs spread out wide, sitting. push yourself towards the wall (opening your legs gently and gradually as wide as their limit), and hold for 10 seconds, release and do butterfly, then repeat, etc

    the youtube video, (type in search bar on youtube "splits" and it should say "want great splits?") , is KEY! it holds the best info! good luck, for i know that center splits are very irritating and must be worked hard on. ;)  (PS- if the link doesn't work, just type into the search bar on youtube "splits", and click on the first video, the one saying "Want great splits?"

  4. One strecth that helps, but is kinda awkward..put your butt right up to the wall and let your legs hang done. Do this everyday and keep spreading your legs farther out each time. And also strecth a lot.

  5. go againest a wall

    n do ur splits againest the wall.

    then u just push til ur legs touch the wall.

  6. stretch in your straddle like when your watching tv or during spare time put your amrs out on by each let and drop your head so your tummy touches the ground =]
