I have a 42 SABRE flat screen HD television that supports HDMI, Digital television. Im trying to set up my television to get digital television channels. My dad has a 42 Sony flat screen television and he was able to scan for digital channels. We have Comcast basic package which means we have no cable box. The digital channels he can get are PBS, ABC, NBC, etc. Is there something I need to do in order to scan and get digital television channels?

  1. I am not familiar with your brand of television.  However I can give you some information that might help you out.  I am assuming that by saying you have no cable box means you plug the Comcast cable directly into your tv set.

The reason your dad could get digital channels on his Sony flat screen is due to the type of tuners built into the Sony.  There are several different tuners - the one you want for digital channels is the QAM tuner.  Sonys have QAM tuners and thus can get unscrabled digital channels.  You need to look through the manual for your tv set and see if it also has a QAM tuner built in.  There a lots of sets that do not and it is possible yours could be one of them.  If that is the case then the only way you will be able to get digital channels is by renting a digital cable box from Comcast.
