How do you get experience when applying for apprenticeship?

for example, when an employer is offering apprenticeship, but asks that you have at least 1-2 yrs experience (electrical). Where are they expecting this experience to come from? What jobs can someone do to show experience?

Rather than going for an apprenticeship with an employer and you have no experience, why dont you go with a company that supplies apprenticeships - they will help you look for a job that is good for a complete beginner.
