How do you get fondant to work right?

I keep trying to put fondant over round cakes. How do you put it on correctly so it doesnt look all wrinkly?

  1. fondant is a mixture of confectioners sugar with some sort of liquid.

    you add the liquids (food coloring, vanilla ex', orange juice, milk, water, liqueur etc) one spoon at the time and stir well until the consistency is right (shouldn't be too liquidy because its not gonna stick on the cake). after that you just pour it over the cake and it would just cover it (expect a little dripping..).

    I found a beautiful way to cover the cake: i pour the fondant into a plastic sandwich bag, squeeze all the icing into one corner and the rip off the end of the tip and start drizzling the fondant in zig-zags from one end of the cake to another. after im done i drizzle again in the other direction until i form a fondant "web".

    the outcome is really beautiful and has a very professional look.
