How do you get internet on a laptop?

Question

Hey, I just bought a new laptop and I want to get it hooked up with the internet and i dont understand how?

(by the way i am using my computer now)

there are Meany ways but you need to have the basics for example the modem and maybe a router sometimes depending on who you are with you sometimes get the modem and router together.in which Case you would connect the blue Ethernet cable to the lan (Local Area Network) or if your laptop has it turn on WiFi and click on available networks and look for yours if you are not sure which is yours the best thing to do is to turn the power of for a second on the router so it will go off the screen.

I use my cell phone through GPRS/EDGE service. Call the cell phone provider for more information.

either use a wireless internet connection

or use an ethernet cable to connect your laptop to an internet outlet thing (im not exactly sure wut they r called)

Does your new laptop have wireless capabilities?  The quickest way would be to unplug the internet cable from the back of your computer.  It looks like a phone cable on steroids.  then plug it into the corresponding jack on the laptop.  The laptop should pickup an IP after 30 seconds or so if DHCP is enabled.  Then you will have working internet on your laptop.  the other method would be to go to a store that carries computers and look for a wireless router.  Linksys makes one of the best IMO.  simply unplug the network cable from your desktop and plug it into the back of the router.  then plug it in.  after some time your laptop will say that it it has detected a wireless network.  click the wireless icon, and do what the system tells you from there.  

Please understand that is the over simplified version of things but it will get you the general idea and get you started.

If you have a wireless laptop like i do, then simply get a mobile broadband dongle. Every mobile network does them (it's like a little stick with a usb connection on the end.) Plug it into the usb connection on the side of the laptop, and it'll automatically install it onto the laptop. Follow instructions and there you are. Its all i did, and it works just fine..

There are a number of ways to achieve this. You need to make a connection between the Laptop and the router (where your internet terminates)

Wireless is the easiest way, but failing that you will need to run a cable between them.
