How do you get into the acting and singing industry?

All my life I've wanted to be an actress and a musician. I've sang by myself many times over the past 4 or 5 years in front of large audiences, and I've been told I'm very talented. I also have been playing the piano about 6 and a half years, and have previously played violin, so I know a lot about music.

I've acted in about 3 or 4 school plays and I fell in love.I usually got the second highest lead(because the leads had to be boys) or at least a solo in a song and of course, lines to say. So I've really learned to enjoy acting! I can easily remember lines and music.

I do not live in L.A. Actually, I live across the country. I just want to no if I have any hopes in becoming an actress or singer. I'm 13 years old and I'm very passionate about what I do. I wish I could get started with this career, but I really don't no what to do. Please, if anyone has any advice or suggestions or even comments, please let me know. I know that it takes determination, and that I may get let down sometimes or many times, but I know I can work hard to accomplish my dream. Thanks for all your help!

  1. Good for you! It's good to have passion, especially when you want to enter a field that over 90% of the people in it are unemployed. Read as much as you can - plays, books, etc. Act as much as you can - school shows, community theater, etc. Participate in as many arts classes as you can at school. Once you're older (like 15, 16), you can start taking voice lessons. Do summer stock programs if you can afford it. When you're old enough to volunteer at community theaters, do it - it's a great way to see shows for free and learn more about your craft.

Even with all your hardest work, it's still a c**p shoot as to whether you will work or not. I did all of the above and never made it as a working actor - though I do work in performing arts. On the other hand, a good friend of mine has made his living as a working actor since he graduated from college. He's even been in a Tony-nominated show!

    Break a leg!

  2. By any chance is your last name foster? And you live in lewistown pennsylvania?

  3. You sound pretty talented. ^^ But, at auditions, it's not always about how good you are, I mean, you have to be good, but it also means you fit the part. So if you don't get it it may mean you just didn't fit the part. And it makes it alot easier to find auditions if you get an agent, but he/she does not get paid untill you get paid for an acting job, so if they try to get money out of you in any way you're most likely being scammed.
