  1. theres a shampoo for that at pet stores

  2. there are powders or shampoo that are used to remove lice.keep her away from other horses untill all of the lice are gone.your local feed store has some good powders and shampoo,i would use powder right now so your horse doesnt get too cold.

  3. Hi. Yes there are some great shampoos on the market but also some fantastic natural remedies. The one that I find most effective, least toxic to the horse and most cost effective is sulpur.

Sulpur, that powdery yellow stuff. Rub it into their coat (under mane, base of tail and wherever you suspect they are. Up to covering the whole body) kills the little suckers. Regular repeats say every  two/three days to catch the babies untill all eggs have hatched solves the immediate problem.

I used this remedy on a horse that I purchased early 2007 who was covered (literally crawling from head to toe and almost bald from scratching) within a month and a half he was clean. I treated him far longer than I had to but I was not taking any chances of missing any and since it was a case of shake the powder over his top line and rub it was no hassel. Obviously it took longer to grow back back it was great and no cross contamination to the others thank god!

Feeding some daily will strengthen the horses natural defenses against parasites(about 1 tablespoon daily for a full size horse) It works wonders as a wormer to 2 cups mixed with feed in a single dose clears most worms. (proved this to myself with worm counts before and after with my babies)
