How do you get more back spin on irons 4-8?

the greens at my local course are very fast, and i need to stay on the green on my 2nd shot.

  1. Move the ball back in your stance a little so you hit down on it.  Strike ball first, then take your divot, put more hand action into it.

  3. You have to have a slightly steeper approach into the ball.  Also, try to keep your wrists c-o-c-k-e-d for as long as possible, before turning them over at impact.

  4. Hit down on the ball and trap it agaist the turf, that will get you more backspin on the ball.  Don't expect much backspin with the 4-6 irons, play those a little short of the target expecting them to release.

  5. There are very few golfers who can put backspin on irons 4 thru 8. These are not meant to be spun but are hit for particular distances within a range of approximately 10 yards.The object therefore, is to bump and run for a short pin placement and to hit front green for middle pin placements as well as rear pins. This gives one a chance for birdie putts.
