How do you get motivated to run when your morning starts off so bad?

I was planning on doing a 5 mile run this morning but since I woke up at 5:00 this morning, my day has gotten off to a very rough start. My son with autism awoke and had a major meltdown. He spilled water all over some important documents that I have to dry out. We have a couple very sick hampsters I am trying to nurse back to health, and to top it off, I accidently spilled a whole cup of hot coffee on the carpet. Oh ya, and I started my period today so I feel so crampy. This all happened before 5:30 :(

I am feeling less motivated, but I HAVE to run. How do get back into the mode?

  1. Listen to some good Christian music(pop) and be thankful for what you have.  Then off to run.  It works, trust me

  2. It's really awful when your day starts badly. I would suggest that you just give it a rest for a day - or maybe just go for a walk instead. Running should clear the mind and keep you fit and give you energy BUT if you have things on your mind it is difficult, and I wouldn't even attempt it if I was on my period. Do you listen to music while you run? That's a good motivator as well as giving you a pace to run to. Give yourself a break once in a while though - it sounds like you deserve one :-)

  3. read a running book or magazine

    put on running clothes

    go outside

start walking then go to running

start out with a short bike ride

get someone to run with you

  4. All the more reason to go out for a run.  You do have challenges, but you need your time too.  You will feel better and mentally equipped to tackle the day,( you don't want to have a meltdown. )   Put on your shoes and go.  You'll be glad that you did.

There are going to be lots of bumps in the road ahead, and its important for your happiness too.  If your not happy the rest of the households not happy.  Run, do it for your family, your son.

    Run happy :)

  5. Running is a happy (even though sometimes hurtful) time for me so when everything else is going downhill and bad, I remember that I get to run with just me, the road (or trail) and my iPod and it's a happy time to just unwind.

  6. i sometimes dont run at all, at those times. i mean sometimes you have to do what your body tells you to do. however, i usually feel like that every morning, so i just walk for 5 minutes with my ipod and somehow all my angry/frustrated emotions empty out and then i start running.

  7. Push yourself to do it, once you start force yourself to not let your day get worse and have a great run, also try to make yourself smile even though it will probably be fake,it's all mental
