How do you get old grout off of tile?

we have a patio where someone put tile down and did not wipe any of the grout off. its really cool tile and i don't want to get rid of it but the grout is all over the tile and its thick you can hardly even see the tile. its outside so i can use anything on it.

  2. you can get a box cutter or widget and carefully use the blade to get most of it off- then get a bucket of very hot (not boiling) soapy water (dish soap is ok) and a scrub brush (med. to hard bristles- not metal) and get the tile wet for a minute and then scrub. The hot water will help separate the grout from the finish on the tile and easier to scrub away. Rinse and wipe away.
