  1. Also check your state laws. Here in Mississippi, not only do you have to be ordained but also "in good standing with your congregation". Yes, it was challenged in court. I read the case on it. A couple was married by the local sheriff (who got the license because the judge was not available most of the time to perform weddings) and when the husband died 2 years later, his children challenged it.

  2. Google the Universal Life Church. It is free, although it can take a few days for your application to be processed. Depending on your state, you may need them to send you a certificate of verification, but that costs under $20.

  3. you can just google becoming ordained and you will find all kinds of responses...

I looked into it for my fiance and I to be wed by a friend . The one site I looked at was like 25 dollars for one year and you could get the rules and laws of ceremonies along with actual marriage certificates.

you also need to check with your individual state laws because in some places it is not considered a legal ceremony. Some parts of New York have actually outlawed ceremonies performed by someone ordained online.

Good Luck and many happy years to your friend!!

here is one of the websites I looked at. click on the place an order link on the left side at the botom of the list to see all the prices. they even offer pkgs on the stuff.

  4. Check out this website for free online ordinations:

The site says it's free and takes about 24 hours to recieve a confirmation email. However, you may need to purchase a "Letter of Good Standing" to validate your credentials as an ordained minister. You'll need to check with the County Clerk in the municipality where the ceremony will take place to see if this in necessary.
