Your question is a difficult one. Parents in general want the school to handle education. But most respond when actually asked to participate. As a teacher, I always tried to develop a family project . One must be careful to include those students that have family problems. There are times when a student must be invited to join another's family in the project. Stay away from projects designed to trace family heritage. Instead choose a local history project, an invironmental project, develop an eco system project, or a museum exhibit extension.

Family projects can also include stamp,coin, or other collectible information . Stress being on the information, not the collection. Good luck.
